How to Set Up EPG for IPTV — Complete Configuration Guide

Learn how to configure EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) for IPTV on TiviMate, IPTV Smarters, XCIPTV, and all major apps. Fix EPG not working issues.

What is EPG and Why Does It Matter?

EPG stands for Electronic Programme Guide — the on-screen TV guide that shows what is currently playing and what is scheduled next. A good EPG transforms your IPTV experience from a simple channel list into something resembling a traditional TV guide, where you can see what is on, browse upcoming shows, and plan your viewing.

VIP IPTV Club provides an EPG URL in your welcome email. This URL points to an XML file that your IPTV app downloads and parses to display programme schedules for all supported channels.

Setting Up EPG in TiviMate

  1. Open TiviMate and go to Settings (gear icon)
  2. Navigate to Playlist → [Your Playlist Name] → EPG
  3. Paste your EPG URL from your welcome email
  4. Set Update interval to 12 hours
  5. Tap Update EPG now
  6. Wait 60–90 seconds for the programme data to populate

Once configured, TiviMate shows a timeline at the bottom of the screen while watching, and a full 7-day programme grid is available in the Guide view.

Setting Up EPG in IPTV Smarters

For Xtream Codes connections in IPTV Smarters, EPG typically loads automatically — no additional URL needed. For M3U connections, go to your profile settings and add the EPG URL in the designated field. Tap Save and force an EPG refresh from the settings menu.

Setting Up EPG in XCIPTV

In XCIPTV, go to Settings → EPG. Enter your EPG URL and set the update frequency. Tap Update Now to trigger an immediate load. XCIPTV's EPG view displays a horizontal timeline format that works particularly well for browsing with a remote control.

Fix: EPG Not Working or Not Showing

  • Wrong EPG URL: Test your EPG URL by pasting it in a browser — it should download an XML/XMLTV file. If it shows an error page, the URL is incorrect.
  • Wrong timezone: EPG times are relative to your configured timezone. Ensure your device's timezone matches your actual location.
  • EPG data not matching channels: EPG channels are matched by ID. If EPG shows for some channels but not others, those channels may not have EPG data available, or the channel IDs do not match.
  • App-level cache: Force an EPG refresh in your app settings. Clear the app cache if the guide still does not update.

Frequently Asked Questions

XMLTV is the standard format for IPTV programme guide data. Your EPG URL points to an XML file in XMLTV format. Your IPTV app downloads this file to display channel schedules.

Most providers recommend setting EPG to update every 12–24 hours. Daily updates ensure you always have current schedule data without excessive bandwidth use.

Wrong EPG times are caused by timezone mismatch. Ensure your device's system timezone is set correctly. EPG data is usually stored in UTC and your app converts it to local time based on your device setting.

No. EPG availability depends on the channel and the IPTV provider's data sources. Major channels from USA, UK, and Europe typically have full EPG. Some regional or niche channels may not have programme guide data.

Yes. If VIP IPTV Club's EPG does not cover a specific channel you want, you can add additional EPG sources in most IPTV apps by entering another XMLTV URL alongside your main EPG URL.
